DIY Spring Sickness Remedies

Regardless of the fact that there is snow on the ground and everyone is still wearing winter coats, this week marks the beginning of the spring season.

And while CSU may be missing out on the blooming flowers and comfortable weather, students will still be experiencing the downside to spring, which is the inevitable sicknesses that accompany the new season.

So if you catch that annual cold or begin to feel like you’re getting sick, try some of these unique homemade remedies:

Sriracha Cold Remedy Broth

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of Sriracha
  • 1 tablespoon of ginger
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice

Directions: Pour all ingredients into boiling water and stir. 

Homemade Cough Syrup

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger

Directions: 

  1. Pour all ingredients into a container and shake.
  2. Leave at room temperature for a day before ingestion.

Sweetened Apple Cider Vinegar Drink

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups of cold water
  • 2 tablespoons of apple juice
  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon
  • 1/2 tablespoon of powdered stevia

Directions: Pour all ingredients in a cup and stir.

Immune Boosting Jam

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of dried elderberries
  • 3/4 cup of water
  • 1 1/2 cups of lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup of stevia
  • 3 tablespoons of pectin

Directions:

  1. Soak elderberries in water overnight.
  2. Boil all of the ingredients for 20 minutes.
  3. Pour ingredients into a container and leave at room temperature until it hardens to your preferred consistency.

Homemade Vapor Rub

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons of grated beeswax
  • 3 tablespoons of cocoa butter
  • 7 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 60 drops of tea tree oil

Directions: Pour all ingredients in a bowl and stir.
