College Avenue and its editorial staff are passionate about transparency and accountability both in our work and our processes. We believe that honesty and accountability are foundational to representing our community accurately, ethically and justly. We hope to be a trusted publication for Colorado State University and Fort Collins, which is why when we make a mistake, we will print a correction and update our website accordingly.
Our editorial staff is aware of concerns and rumors of generative artificial intelligence being used in our first edition of the academic year. We want to clarify that College Avenue did not, and will not use generative AI in any reporting, writing, photography, design or any other form of published material.
The confusion comes from a story from our first edition titled, “CSU 101: Surviving and thriving your first year,” which included multiple photo illustrations intended to look like a postcard or cartoons. These photos were taken by College Avenue students and were then edited using Photoshop, InDesign filters and Canva by our editorial staff, which distorted some of the details. In one image, we did not catch a distortion where a student appears to have six fingers – a common mistake made by generative AI. We apologize for not fixing that error before sending it to print.
If there are further concerns or errors, please reach out to Editor-in-Chief Aubree Miller at editor@collegeavemag.com.
