The people who are truly dedicated to spring break are the ones who plan a year in advance. But not everyone can plan that early in advance, so a last-minute spring break is a reality for many Colorado State University students. So the real question is: what is the best way to plan an entire trip with only a few days before the break?
Here are three tips for planning a last minute spring break trip:
1. Stay local.
People think the right way to “do” spring break is by getting out of state, but Colorado is a known vacation spot and there are numerous places to explore. From ski trips to hikes, Colorado has so much to offer. Try renting an Airbnb for a few days and enjoy “Colorful Colorado.” Places like Breckenridge have beautiful homes you can rent, and there are good deals on hometogo. Just like the states around Colorado, there are also many camping grounds. Poudre Canyon is only about an hour away from Fort Collins where you can rent log cabins. There is no better way to vacation than a “staycation.”
2. Pack up your car and adventure out on a good ole’ road trip.
Colorado is close to some beautiful states: Utah, Montana and Wyoming. It is not necessary to go far to get a taste of other regions.
If a hotel is a better fit, TripAdvisor is a great place to check. However, if roughing it with a tent in Utah sounds like the way to go, Bear Lake State Park is only a six-hour drive from Fort Collins. Montana holds the famous Glacier National Park and there are 13 different campgrounds to choose from with over 1,000 campsites with prices as low as $10 a night. Although it is a 13-hour drive, it is definitely worth it.
3. Go big or go home.
Websites like Kayak or Trivago are perfect to get some last minute travel deals. Try a trip out of the country or go to a new state. Grab a few friends and pull out the credit card, trips like these are not the time to second guess the decision: this is the “go big or go home” trip.
Last minute travel can take a form of a cheap weekend getaway or a spontaneous expedition to the ends of the Earth, but it easy to have fun either way. Have happy and safe travels, Rams.
