North of the College Avenue and Laurel intersection, a new community gathering location will be available at the end of 2015. The Music District project is anticipated to open in December, and construction is being done on the location now.
The Music district will be a central location to bring adult musicians, organizations and businesses together. The Music District will be a musician-inspired hub with rehearsal space, practice rooms and a media room.
“I think that it will be a place for non-music majors,” said Brynna Ashton, sophomore piano performance major. “Music majors are already at the UCA all the time, so it may not be the most convenient for them to use.”
The Bohemian Foundation, an organization created by CSU graduate Pat Stryker in 2001, is funding The Music District. The Bohemian Foundation focuses on music to improve the community.
Davis Davis Architects, a local Fort Collins architectural firm designed the buildings. The buildings will be restored and create a neighborhood-like gathering space for music.
The Music District will occupy the buildings on the west side of College Avenue, from 619 to 639 South College, near The Alley Cat.
“I think it has the potential to be successful, but it would really have to be advertised well,” Ashton said.
