Fall is in full swing and Colorado State University students are breaking out their sweaters and buying their pumpkins. All around Fort Collins seasonal events are starting to pop up in preparation for the scariest time of the year, Halloween. For thrill seekers and many Halloween lovers, corn mazes are one of the most popular events to attend during a cold night with friends.
1. Jack Lantern’s Corn Maze
If you’re looking to get your scare on, you and your friends could try a haunted corn maze like Jack Lantern’s Corn Maze. The farm’s nightlife haunted events consist of haunted hayrides leading into the entrance of the corn maze named the ‘Corn Maze of Carnage.’ Jack Lantern’s owner Jason Martindale and his wife Jenna describe the business as “a completely family owned farm that has been running for 16 years.”
The events go through October with weekend hours for night activities going from dusk to 11 p.m. The price for one person is $24 for both the night hayride and corn maze. For a cheaper, less scary alternative the farm offers a non-haunted corn maze after dark at the same hours for $10.
2. Creepy Walk in the Woods
If corn mazes aren’t your thing, just west of Loveland at the base of Devil’s Backbone is Creepy Walk in the Woods. Rather than finding your way out of a maze with a new scare at every turn, this is an unguided exploration through the woods at night where even the staff are too terrified to enter.
“We want visitors to have a nice night out, not just waiting in a line with nothing to do,” said the front manager Angela Helburt. “We have hot chocolate, fire pits and local vendors for visitors to enjoy.”
The event started as a way to help fund the Boy Scouts but later branched off into their own charity event to help support the local community. Ticket prices are $20 per person and event nights are on Friday and Saturday = during the second, third and fourth week of October, ending right before Halloween.
3. Fritzler Farms Scream Acres
Fritzler Farms Scream Acres is just south of Greeley in LaSalle, Colorado and events run until Halloween night. This farm offers a haunted corn maze, midnight paintball and a ghost hunt. Glen Fritzler, the owner of Fritzler Farms, said the farm’s activities “includes something for everyone. Every year we are adding a new haunted and non-haunted experience for everyone to enjoy.”
Prices begin at $22.95 per person when purchased online or $57.95 for the whole season. Weekend hours go from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday’s and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday’s.
Colorado State University students have a variety of traditional corn mazes and haunted and non-haunted activities both indoors and out this Halloween season.
