When four Colorado State University freshmen posted a picture of themselves in blackface the fall of 2019, other students added another tally mark to their list of bias-motivated incidents related to the University. These events, from the noose in Newsom to the racist graffiti on campus, have shaped an entire undergraduate class’ experience at the University over the last four years.

To give the new and returning community a fuller picture of that experience, College Avenue Magazine has compiled a timeline of all the bias-motivated incidents we could find coverage of since 2015, as well as other controversial CSU events and the responses of students and the University.

This resource will be updated periodically as new reporting and events arise.

How to Read the Timeline

The timeline events are paired with icons for a visual aid, and further details can be obtained by reading the linked material. The text inside indicates whether the incident related to Racism, White Supremacy, Antisemitism, Islamophobia, or was a response to an incident. Some events may fall into multiple categories.

The color indicates the form the incident took place as ranging from Targeted Harassment, Discrimination, Public Displays, Vandalism, and Controversial Events. Refer to the chart below for the color-coding guide.
