Lyric Cinema Cafe celebrates the film industry by creating a unique environment for movie buffs to enjoy newly released films as well as cinematic classics. This spring, Lyric Cinema Cafe will be screening a wide range of movies including Cohen brothers films, recently released independent movies and short films made by local teenagers.

March 25: “Embrace of the Serpent” (2015)

  • Starring: Nilbio Torres, Jan Bijvoet, Antonio Bolivar
  • Plot: Nominated the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, “Embrace the Serpent” follows an Amazonian shaman and the last survivor of his people as they search for a healing plant.

March 25: “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” (2000)

• Runtime: 1 hour 46 minutes
• Director: Joel and Ethan Coen
• Starring: George Clooney, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson
• Plot: “O Brother, Where Art Though” takes place during the 1930s in the South. The story was inspired by the Greek epic, “The Odyssey.” It is about three escape convicts who search for a hidden treasure while running from a relentless lawman.

April 1: “Hello, My Name is Doris” (2015)

• Director: Michael Showalter
• Starring: Sally Field, Max Greenfield, Beth Behrs
• Plot: “Hello, My Name is Doris” tells the story of a woman in her 60s who becomes inspired to pursue a romantic relationship with her younger co-worker after attending a self-help seminar.

April 1: “No Country for Old Men” (2007)

April 7: #filmfest: High School Film Festival of Fort Collins

About: The Lyric Cinema Cafe will host the Fort Collins’ first high school film festival. The festival will feature short films made by high schools students. A portion of the proceeds will go towards funding film programs at high schools.

April 8: “True Grit” (2010)

• Plot: Inspired by the John Wayne classic, “True Grit” retells the story of a U.S. Marshal and a Texas ranger who help a teenage girl track down her father’s killer in Indian Territory.

April 8: “Marguerite” (2015)

• Starring: Catherine Frot, André Marcon, Michel Fau
• Plot: “Marguerite” follows the story of a wealthy woman in Paris during the 1920s as she fulfills her dream of becoming an opera singer. The problem is that no one will tell her how bad her vocal abilities are.

April 8: “Knight of Cups” (2015)
