Being sick in college is hard. Choosing rest over classes is impossible. Oftentimes, college schedules are so busy there is no time for sleep. This is why it is so important to take the necessary precautions as quickly as possible.
Some colds do not require a visit to the doctors, they can be cured with home remedies. However, sometimes a quick drop in at the doctor’s office or the CSU Health and Medical Center really is the best chance at recovery. If the cold does not get better after awhile, definitely pay them a visit.
“No, I didn’t go to the doctors because it was not severe,” Calvin Seewald said, a freshman majoring in computer science at Colorado State University. “Also, I don’t go to the doctors that much because it is expensive and they are just going to tell you that your sick and you already know that.”
Some great things to use when your sick and have a low budget are apples, honey, sleepy tea, nasal spray, Vapex rub, Vitamin Water, cough medicine, Chloraseptic, Aleve, hand sanitizer and sleeping pills. These items are all over the counter and at any grocery store.
When taking medicine, it is important to eat because the medicine will burn your stomach. Eat something light, like crackers or pretzels can help an enormous amount.
Some tips and tricks to getting over your sickness:
Stay hydrated. It is easy to become dehydrated while sick, but having a high intake of water can help flush out any unwanted bacteria in your body.
Eat a spoonful of honey. This can work to ease a nasty cough and coat your throat instead of taking a cough medicine.
Use sleep aids. Sleep is the key to getting healthy when you are feeling under the weather. If you are struggling to fall asleep or stay asleep, sleep aids can be a huge help. Some sleep aids are natural, such as tea and melatonin.
Vitamin Water. Now, this kind of goes along with staying hydrated. Vitamin Water is a good way to get vitamins into your body in a healthy way, it is pretty much like EmergenC, but better.
Take Aleve. This over the counter medication can help with any body aches and pain that you may experience when sick. Taking away any pains will let you focus on more important things, like getting healthy again.
If recovery is not coming quickly with these at home remedies, make sure to visit the CSU Health and Medical Center and keep fellow your peers healthy.
